Shih-fu Doug Moffett
|
Shih-Fu Moffett, 9th Higher Level Black Sash, and chief instructor of Lung Ch'uan Fa, has over 36 years of experience in the martial arts. He has attended numerous seminars by instructors of other styles to supplement and strengthen the already versatile dragon-styled techniques in order to provide well rounded instruction to his students. He is a student of Lao Shih-Fu Steve Clark of Tomah, WI who is an almost 50 year veteran of the martial arts.

Presently Shih-Fu Moffett is teaching Dragon’s Fist Style Kung Fu classes, as well as Qi-Gong classes and Yang Style Tai Chi Ch'uan classes through the Spring Hill RECenter. Shih-Fu Moffett is also leading many group exercise classes at the Reston YMCA, the Spring Hill RECenter, as well as the Regency and Greensboro Sport & Health. From cross-training and sports conditioning to kickbox and muscle sculpting; his classes are known for their high-intensity levels. Many of his classes have successfully participated in 1000 and 2000 kick challenges in the one hour period and last summer 30 fitness enthusiasts completed the 2nd Annual All-Night 8 hour Fitness Challenge at the Reston YMCA. Several of Shih-Fu Moffett’s students completed a 24 hour martial arts challenge in 2007 also!
Shih-Fu Moffett is a Senior Instructor Trainer in the F.I.E.R.C.E. Teacher Training ™ program, a leadership training program for the military that trains instructors in armed and unarmed methods throughout the Force Continuum. He has led training for Marine Corps Infantry and Naval personnel in Hawaii, North Carolina, and California over the last several years.
He is an affiliate member and has been a regular demonstrator and tournament forms and fighting ring judge in CACMA (Carolina Association of Chinese Martial Arts) events in western North Carolina. Shih-Fu Moffett is presently serving as a Co -Vice-President to the CACMA organization. CACMA is led by Sifu Anthony Stephenson of Asheville, NC and Lao Shifu Steve Clark of Tomah, WI and Sifu Chris Facente of Mint Hill, NC and CACMA has been an avid supporter of the USKSF tournament (see below).
As a United States Kuo Shu Federation (USKSF) member, Shih-Fu Moffett completed the comprehensive 4 day referee training in order to be certified as an International Referee "A" honor graduate at Hunt Valley, MD in July of 2006, and has been an International Referee “B” since 2002. He has served as a ring Chief Judge in empty hand and weapons forms divisions, as well as light contact sparring. In addition, as part of the responsibilities of an International Referee, he has served as a corner judge for the Leitai platform full-contact fighting. From 1998 to the present, Shih-Fu Moffett has offered his services at this prestigious championship tournament. At the 1999 Kuoshu tournament, he was a corner man and coach for a CACMA Lei Tai full-contact fighter.
He has had several articles published in "Inside Kung Fu" magazine on the anatomy of shoulder chin-na (Jan 97), the use of footwork in developing mobility (Jan 2001), the specific footwork drill known as the eight-way stepping drill (October 2001), and the training in the USMC Martial Arts Program (August 2002).
Shih-Fu Moffett was chosen as CACMA "Sifu of the Month" in the Spring 2001 newsletter and was inducted into the US Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2004.
At the present time, Shih-Fu Moffett is teaching Lung Ch'uan Fa Kung Fu classes & seminars in the northern Virginia area, nd soon will be teaching mixed martial arts classes through the Spring Hill RECenter. His senior student, Shih-Hsiung Bryan “Indomitable Wolf” Grayson, runs intensive classes for the military in California, while his senior student in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Shih-Hsiung John “Tenacious Crane” Tubbs, 3rd Higher Level, is continuing classes at the Miller Park outdoor amphitheater.
