Meridians

Meridian is the name given to the hidden channels of energy that course through our bodies. Acupuncture and Acupressure utilize points along these channels to tonify (stimulate) or sedate the channel and the organ or organ systems that relate to these points. There are several hundred points along these 12 major meridians and 2 extra channels. Over several thousand years the Chinese have discovered and refined a healthcare system that utilizes these points with the Five Element Theory in order to promote or help a person's health.

Experienced martial artists also know that there are points and areas along these channels that when activated will disrupt the energy of that channel or organ system. Pain, numbness, paralysis, fainting, collapse, or even death may result. Some of these points require striking, twisting, or compression in order to cause the proper response.

A martial arts practitioners with a high degree of morality will also seek information about the healing aspects to balance the quest and understanding of how to damage or hurt an attacker. This knowledge will also be practical for helping and healing the training injuries that often occur with vigorous activity. This information can be utilized for self-care or care of your fellow practitioners.

Look for upcoming information on the 12 Channels and their related organ systems, Master Points, and some common usages of points.

This information is not a substitute for information gained by your own health care practitioner, nor is it meant to be utilized to determine a diagnosis. If you have a health care condition, please consult your own healthcare practitioner. Martial Artists, a word of caution. Do not experiment with striking or touching any of these points until you know how to reverse the action or revive the person.
